Description

Amish Apple Fritter Bread is a cozy fall loaf loaded with warm cinnamon-spiced apples and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze. Moist from sour cream and finished with a tender crumb, it’s the perfect blend of comfort and flavor—ideal for breakfast, dessert, or gifting during the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale

Apple Mixture:

  • 2 medium baking apples, peeled and chopped

  • ½ cup light brown sugar (100 g)

  • 2 heaping tsp ground cinnamon

  • 1 tsp ground ginger

Batter:

  • 1 large egg, room temperature

  • ⅓ cup white sugar (67 g)

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil (60 ml)

  • ¼ cup full-fat sour cream (60 g), room temperature

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (125 g)

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp kosher salt

Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted (120 g)

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3 tbsp milk (45 ml)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a standard loaf pan with nonstick spray.

  • In a bowl, toss chopped apples with brown sugar, cinnamon, and ginger. Set aside.

  • In a large bowl, whisk egg, white sugar, oil, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.

  • In another bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir dry ingredients into wet until just combined.

  • Fold in ¾ of the apple mixture. Pour batter into pan and smooth top. Scatter remaining apples over top.

  • Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean and internal temp is 200°F (93°C).

  • Let cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes.

  • Whisk glaze ingredients until smooth. Drizzle over cooled bread before slicing and serving.

Notes

Avoid overmixing the batter for a tender texture.

Let bread fully cool before glazing to avoid melting the icing.

For crunch, sprinkle turbinado sugar over the apple topping before baking.

A mix of tart and sweet apples adds great flavor depth.
