Description

Baked Italian Grinder Sandwiches are the ultimate hot hoagie comfort food, layered with deli meats, melty cheeses, roasted peppers, and basil, all baked into garlicky, golden rolls. Perfect for family dinners, game days, or casual get-togethers, this sandwich delivers bold flavor and cozy satisfaction in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf Italian sub rolls

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 1 tbsp dried basil

  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes

  • ½ tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • ½ lb deli-sliced salami

  • ½ lb deli-sliced ham

  • ½ lb deli-sliced pepperoni

  • ½ lb deli-sliced mozzarella cheese

  • ½ lb deli-sliced provolone cheese

  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • ¼ cup roasted red peppers, sliced

  • ¼ cup black olives, sliced

  • ¼ cup banana peppers, sliced

  • ¼ cup fresh basil leaves

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Slice rolls lengthwise without cutting through the bottom, and lay open on a baking sheet.

  3. In a bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper.

  4. Brush the seasoned butter generously over both sides of the bread.

  5. Layer salami, ham, and pepperoni across the bottom half of the rolls.

  6. Add mozzarella and provolone cheeses.

  7. Sprinkle Parmesan over the top.

  8. Add roasted red peppers, black olives, and banana peppers.

  9. Finish with fresh basil leaves.

  10. Bake 10–12 minutes, until the cheese melts and the bread crisps.

  11. Let rest 5 minutes before cutting and serving warm.

Notes

Don’t skip the seasoned butter mix—it transforms the bread.

Layer meats evenly for the best flavor balance.

Parchment paper prevents sticking and makes cleanup easier.

Make ahead: assemble, wrap in foil, and refrigerate. Bake when ready.

For extra spice, add more banana peppers or a drizzle of hot sauce.
