Description
Cherry Cobbler with canned pie filling bakes into a warm, buttery dessert with a golden cake-like top. This simple recipe uses pantry staples and comes together in under an hour.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/4 cup butter, equal to 4 tablespoons
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup milk
- 1 can cherry pie filling, 21 ounces
Instructions
- Add butter to a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish and place the dish in a cold oven.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and let the butter melt as the oven heats.
- In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, and baking powder until combined.
- Add milk and stir just until the batter looks smooth.
- Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven once the butter melts.
- Pour the batter into the dish over the melted butter, but do not stir.
- Spoon dollops of cherry pie filling over the batter.
- Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown and the center looks set.
- Let the cobbler cool for several minutes before serving warm.
- Serve plain or with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.
Notes
- Do not stir the batter into the melted butter.
- Spoon the pie filling in dollops so the batter can rise around the fruit.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to the batter for extra flavor.
- Use another 21-ounce pie filling, such as peach, apple, or blueberry, for a different cobbler.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
