Description

Cherry Cobbler with canned pie filling bakes into a warm, buttery dessert with a golden cake-like top. This simple recipe uses pantry staples and comes together in under an hour.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup butter, equal to 4 tablespoons
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 can cherry pie filling, 21 ounces

Instructions

  1. Add butter to a 1 1/2-quart casserole dish and place the dish in a cold oven.
  2. Preheat the oven to 350°F and let the butter melt as the oven heats.
  3. In a mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, and baking powder until combined.
  4. Add milk and stir just until the batter looks smooth.
  5. Carefully remove the hot dish from the oven once the butter melts.
  6. Pour the batter into the dish over the melted butter, but do not stir.
  7. Spoon dollops of cherry pie filling over the batter.
  8. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top turns golden brown and the center looks set.
  9. Let the cobbler cool for several minutes before serving warm.
  10. Serve plain or with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping.

Notes

  1. Do not stir the batter into the melted butter.
  2. Spoon the pie filling in dollops so the batter can rise around the fruit.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract to the batter for extra flavor.
  4. Use another 21-ounce pie filling, such as peach, apple, or blueberry, for a different cobbler.
  5. Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
