Description

Homemade Dragon Rolls are a fun and flavorful sushi recipe that’s easier than you think. With sushi rice, fresh cucumber, creamy avocado, and shrimp or crab, these rolls are perfect for a cozy sushi night at home—healthy, customizable, and sure to impress.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups sushi rice (380 g)

  • 4 sheets nori

  • 1 cucumber, sliced into thin strips

  • 1 avocado, sliced

  • 1 cup cooked shrimp or crab meat (150 g)

  • 2 tablespoons sriracha sauce (30 ml)

  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds (9 g)

Instructions

  • Prepare the rice. Rinse the sushi rice until water runs clear. Cook according to package directions. While warm, season with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Let cool.

  • Prep fillings. Slice cucumber and avocado into strips. Set aside shrimp or crab meat.

  • Set the stage. Place a bamboo mat on a clean surface, cover with plastic wrap, and place one nori sheet shiny-side down.

  • Spread the rice. Wet hands and spread about 1 cup rice over two-thirds of the nori.

  • Layer fillings. Add shrimp/crab, cucumber, and avocado. Drizzle with sriracha.

  • Roll it up. Using the bamboo mat, roll tightly into a firm cylinder.

  • Slice and serve. With a sharp, water-dipped knife, slice into 8 pieces. Sprinkle sesame seeds. Repeat with the remaining ingredients.

Notes

Use a bowl of water to keep hands and knife from sticking.

Don’t overstuff—less filling makes cleaner rolls.

Chill rolls for 5–10 minutes before slicing for neater cuts.

Mash avocado if slices aren’t perfect—it spreads easily.

Substitute with crab sticks, smoked salmon, or even veggies for variation.
