Description

Fresh Homemade Salsa made with tomatoes, jalapeño, onion, garlic, cilantro and lime. Ready in 10 minutes and perfect for chips, tacos, or as a flavorful topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup white onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, roughly chopped
  • 1/2 jalapeño, seeds and ribs removed, roughly chopped
  • 10 ounce can diced tomatoes with green chilies, drained
  • 14.5 ounce can fire roasted diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • Juice from 1/2 lime
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Pinch of sugar (optional)

Instructions

  1. Add onion, garlic and jalapeño to a food processor and pulse until chopped to about 1/4 inch pieces.
  2. Drain diced tomatoes with green chilies and add to the processor.
  3. Add fire roasted tomatoes with juices along with cilantro, lime juice, cumin, salt and sugar.
  4. Pulse until desired consistency is reached.
  5. Taste with a tortilla chip and adjust seasoning if needed.
  6. Chill in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 hours before serving for best flavor.

Notes

  1. For mild salsa use regular diced tomatoes instead of tomatoes with green chilies.
  2. For more heat add extra jalapeño or include seeds.
  3. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days.
