Description

Mixed Berry Pie with a buttery crumb topping made with fresh or frozen berries.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp shortening
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 23 tbsp ice water
  • 810 cups mixed berries
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 lemon juice and zest
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter (topping)
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Mix dry ingredients and cut in fats for dough
  2. Add egg yolk and water, chill dough
  3. Prepare berry filling with sugar and cornstarch
  4. Cook filling until slightly thick
  5. Roll dough and place in pie dish
  6. Add filling and crumb topping
  7. Bake at 375F for 50-55 minutes
  8. Cool completely before serving

Notes

  1. Use frozen berries if fresh are not available
  2. Drain berries well to avoid soggy crust
  3. Cool pie fully for best texture
