Description

Light and fluffy Disney-inspired beignets dusted with powdered sugar, just like Tiana’s famous treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup very warm milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, divided
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 large egg
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable or peanut oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for serving

Instructions

  1. Whisk warm milk, 2 tablespoons sugar, and yeast; rest 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in remaining sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Mix in flour and knead until elastic but sticky.
  4. Cover and rise 2 hours until doubled.
  5. Heat oil to 350°F.
  6. Roll dough to 1/2-inch thickness and cut into squares.
  7. Fry 2–2 1/2 minutes, flipping once.
  8. Drain briefly and dust with powdered sugar.

Notes

  1. Beignets taste best fresh.
  2. Store leftovers up to two days.
  3. Reheat in oven at 350°F for 5 minutes.
