  • 1 cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 3/4 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 tsp almond extract

For the buttercream frosting:

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tbsp milk (or more as needed)

For the glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar

  • 3 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 12 drops liquid red food coloring

  • Valentine’s Day sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  • In a small bowl, stir together flour and baking powder.

  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  • Add egg and extracts, mixing until smooth.

  • Gradually incorporate dry ingredients until a dough forms.

  • Roll dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness.

  • Cut into heart or “X” and “O” shapes and place on parchment-lined baking sheet.

  • Freeze for 5–7 minutes, then bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are just golden.

  • Let decorated cookies set for 1–2 hours before serving.
